The vast production of Tunga gathers photographs, sculptures, drawings, videos, and performances, at the same time it makes reference to several realms of knowledge, such as literature, psychoanalysis, and science. Materials like magnets, glass, felt, and rubber, in addition to bones and fluids, have been used not only due to their physical aspects, but also for their symbolic features and historical references.

The ‘instaurations,’ a term coined by the artist to qualify works built through performative actions, permeate a good part of his oeuvre. Tunga was the first contemporary artist to exhibit at the Musée du Louvre, in Paris (France, 2005). Among his main exhibitions, there are his participation in the biennials of São Paulo (Brazil), Venice (Italy), Havana (Cuba), and the Kassel Documenta (Germany).
