Inhotim Environment Week 2025

Inhotim Environment Week brings together nature, art and education for a celebration of World Environment Day (June 5). In 2025, the 21st edition of the program invites visitors to reflect on territory, memory, biodiversity, and culture through workshops, mediated visits, occupation of gardens, and more.

Vale is the Lead Sponsor of Environment Week, Cemig is the Strategic Partner, Supernosso is the Gold Sponsor. Sponsorship is made possible through the Federal Law of Incentive to Culture.

  • Open Greenhouse: the Garden from the Inside Out

In this activity, visitors will explore the inside of Inhotim’s greenhouses—controlled environments not usually open to the public. These greenhouses are dedicated to the conservation of plants— many of them rare, endangered or lesser-known, as well as familiar ones like orchids and bromeliads. The tour features plant species cultivated in the greenhouses and their stories while encouraging reflection on the memories they awaken in each visitor.

    June 4, 10:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m. & 2:00 p.m.– 4:00 p.m. | Capacity: 7 groups of 15 people each | Duration: 30 minutes per visit | Location: Viveiro Educador (Teaching Nursery) | Registration: On–site | Age Rating: All ages

  • Themed Visit: Behind the Scenes at the Nursery, with Thamyris Bragioni

On World Environment Day, specialized biologist Thamyris Bragioni will lead Behind the Scenes at the Nursery. During this themed visit, participants will discover the gardens of Viveiro Educador (Teaching Nursery) and learn about plant production and botanical collections, focusing on plants native to the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes.

    June 5, at 10:30 a.m. | Capacity: 25 participants | Duration: 90 minutes | Meeting Point: Reception | Registration: On-site starting at 10:00 a.m. | Age Rating: All ages

  • Traveling Workshop: Painting the Pictorial Garden, with Helena Borges

The Jardim Pictórico (Pictorial Garden) is a place that fosters a dialogue about art, garden design, and the history of Inhotim. In the midst of its winding paths, artist Helena Borges is conducting a painting workshop focusing on elements of the Garden that stimulate perception, such as vibrant colors, subtle tones, diverse forms, shadows, and beams of light.

    June 5 and 6, at 2:00 p.m. | Capacity: 25 participants | Duration: 2 hours | Location: Jardim Pictórico (Pictorial Garden) [J6] | Age Rating: All ages

  • Workshop: Doce River Trees and Meeting of Nursery Workers

The workshop will present the results of the project Trees of Doce River: ecological studies to get to know and conserve endangered species of the Doce River Basin, carried out by Inhotim and Instituto Ekos, in partnership with Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV) and Instituto Estadual de Florestas (IEF). It will mark the first-ever meeting of nursery workers at Inhotim, bringing together seedling producers, researchers and institutions to share experiences and practices aimed at the conservation of native flora.

June 6, at 9:30 a.m. | Capacity: 60 participants | Duration: 6 hours and 30 minutes | Location: Espaço Igrejinha | Age Rating: All ages

  • Lab Garden Open Class: Edible Weeds

Lab Jardim (Lab Garden)—a continuing education project in gardening for residents of Brumadinho—is offering a class on Non-Conventional Edible Plants (PANC). The class will be open to the public, encouraging awareness of biodiversity in our food and challenging the way we think about what we often dismiss as “weeds.” A hands-on planting activity will lead to the substitution of one of the mandalas in the Jardim de Todos os Sentidos (Garden of All Senses).

June 7, at 2:00 p.m. | Capacity: 50 participants | Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes | Location: Jardim de Todos os Sentidos (Garden of All Senses) [J1] | Duration: 90 minutes | Age Rating: All ages

  • Traveling Workshop: Cattleya Orchid Laboratory

The Queen of the Cerrado (Cattleya walkeriana) is an important orchid in our territory, considered one of the most beautiful plants of this biome. In this Workshop-Laboratory, participants will find out interesting facts about the orchid and learn about the research being carried out by Inhotim’s Botanical Curatorship in a practical and engaging way, through educational and scientific tools.

June 7 and 8, at 2:00 p.m. | Capacity: 25 participants | Duration: 2 hours | Location: Largo das Orquídeas | Age Rating: All ages
