Cerrado Week 2025

In celebration of Brazil’s National Cerrado Day on September 11, Inhotim is presenting a special program dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation for this important biome. This initiative is part of Ser do Cerrado, a project that integrates environmental education and conservation efforts developed by Inhotim.

The Ser do Cerrado project is carried out in partnership with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Minas Gerais, through the Plataforma Semente, the result of a compensatory measure outlined in a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (Termo de Ajustamento de Conduta; TAC).

  • Course | Why Create a Cerrado Garden?

    September 13–14

Inhotim is offering a two-day course focused on the Cerrado, covering conservation, landscape design, and the sustainable use of the biome’s species in garden creation. Combining theoretical lessons and hands-on practice, the course examines the Instituto’s plant collections and addresses topics such as native species, garden design principles, and the aesthetic language of Inhotim’s landscaping. Taught by specialists, this course is designed for landscape designers, botanists, nursery professionals, gardeners, students, and anyone interested in the topic, regardless of their level of expertise.

Each session requires a separate registration, and partial participation in the course is permitted. However, to receive a certificate, you must attend all sessions.

Session 1: Cerrado Plants in Landscape Design

Dr. Flávia Santos Faria, a specialist in campo rupestre (rocky grassland) species with ornamental potential, will address the use of Cerrado plants in landscape design, highlighting possible applications while emphasizing the importance of conservation in the process of selecting and using these species.

    September 13, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

It will provide a foundation for thinking about how to organize space using native Cerrado species.
