What is a river?
The most unexpected reflections can emerge from the simplest of questions. This is precisely the proposal of “What is…?”.
Visitors are invited to walk along Inhotim’s paths, starting off with a question that proposes new points of view for their experience in a series of events.
In May, the event will be held on the 26th and the theme is “What is a river?”.
11 am: Canoeist gifts himself oars, with David Jesus do Nascimento
Davi Nascimento (BA) inherited from his ancestors the knowledge about boats and the respect for the waters. His son, David de Jesus do Nascimento (MG), has lived with this wisdom since he was little, and which today flows into his artistic works.
Opening the May edition of “What is a river?”, father and son talk about the river and everything it touches. At the end of the conversation, a boat produced in a workshop with young people from Brumadinho will be installed in the lake near Tamboril, where the activity will take place. Registration on site 30 minutes before the event.
Location: Tamboril | Duration 1h | 50 seats, on a first-come, first-served basis | Suitable for all ages
2 pm Being Griot, Being River with Pape Babou Seck (Senegal)
Just like the river currents, the rhythms of the water drums show that ancestry is not something that is in the past, but which evokes a lasting, immense and still present time.
In a performance at the Galpão Gallery, Pape Babou Seck, a Senegalese Master Griot from the Saloum region, brings African oral traditions and their
pedagogies, with the entity River as a great advisor. Registration on site 30 minutes before the event.
Location: Galpão Gallery | Duration 1h | 50 seats, on a first-come, first-served basis | Suitable for all ages
4 pm Femme Frame Rio, with Ava Rocha
Adapted especially for Inhotim, Femme Frame Rio is a concert for piano and voice, with Ava Rocha accompanied by Chicão. In the show, streams of both recorded and unreleased material merge with music classics.
Performative and emotional, the performance is like a living poem that weaves itself in a continuous flow, with the river as the main character. The concert will be held next to Hélio Oiticica’s Invention of Color, penetrable Magic Square #5, De Luxe (1977)
Location: Magic Square (on map A12) | Open to the public | Suitable for all ages
“What is…?” has Vale as its Master Maintainer and Itaú as its Master Sponsorship, through the Federal Law for Culture Incentive.
