Pipilotti Rist, “Homo sapiens sapiens”

The Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist, one of the main references in video art in the world, occupies the Fonte Gallery with the immersive exhibition Homo sapiens sapiens.

Widely known for her video and film installations that transform exhibition spaces into sensory and poetic experiences, the artist offers the public a new perspective on the intersection between genders, the human body, nature and the cosmos.

Homo sapiens sapiens (2005), filmed in Inhotim’s gardens, was originally presented at the 2005 Venice Biennale and is now shown at the museum, adapted for the unique characteristics of the Fonte Gallery. In this cut, the video takes over the gallery ceiling. Visitors can sit on beds, poufs and rugs to watch and take part in the work.

In Rist’s work, in addition to images and environments, music is an essential element. In Homo sapiens sapiens, the musical score is signed by Pipilotti Rist and Anders Guggisberg.

Curated by Douglas de Freitas and Lucas Menezes, the installation of the work provides an experience that questions and celebrates the connection between the individual and the universe, reflecting on such themes as fantasy, dreams, humor and desire.

Homo sapiens sapiens has Vale as its Master Supporter, with Gold Sponsorship by Supernosso, Silver Sponsorship by C6Bank and the Support of Pro Helvetia, through the Federal Law for Culture Incentive.
