Contemporary Art

Collection

Instituto Inhotim counts with a contemporary art collection focused on site-specific installations and large scale works, but also composed of sculptures, photographs, videos, performances, drawings, and paintings dated from the 1960s until the present day. Around 560 works made by 60 different artists coming from 38 different countries are currently on exhibition. In addition to the galleries with works in permanent exhibitions, the museum has four technical storage areas where other works of the collection are kept: sculptures, paintings, photographs, videos, and performances.

Among the 24 galleries, four are dedicated to temporary exhibitions: Lago, Fonte, Praça, and Mata, with exhibitions that are updated to present new works and create reinterpretations of the collection. Moreover, artists are invited to develop new projects – along with the Inhotim staff –, turning the museum into a place in constant movement and evolution.

The 20 permanent galleries present works of Tunga, Cildo Meireles, Miguel Rio Branco, Hélio Oiticica & Neville d’Almeida, Adriana Varejão, Doris Salcedo, Victor Grippo, Matthew Barney, Rivane Neuenschwander, Valeska Soares, Doug Aitken, Marilá Dardot, Lygia Pape, Carlos Garaicoa, Carroll Dunham, Cristina Iglesias, William Kentridge, Claudia Andujar and Yayoi Kusama.
