Escultura para todos os materiais não transparentes (1985) unfolds into a series of the same title consisting of pairs of incomplete spheres in different sizes and materials. This solid, considered perfect in its form, draws attention to the voids between its parts and to the relationship between natural light and the materials used in the work.
With this title, Waltercio Caldas ironically addresses his own practice: since transparency is a recurring characteristic in his works, we observe the opposite in this case, where the opaque materiality of the material – which here is marble, but could also be wood, granite, or bronze – becomes precisely the starting point for the sculpture.
