Viveiro Educador
Located on the Orange Axis, in an area of approximately 70.000 m², the Educational Nursery promotes scientific research, species production and conservation, environmental education, and landscaping. It's a place to be actively experienced by anyone who wants to learn more about biodiversity, especially that of the Atlantic Forest and the Cerrado.
The heart of the Inhotim Botanical Garden, the Educational Nursery, has areas for research, production, and plant conservation—including greenhouses, shade houses, and a Botany Laboratory. These spaces are open to visitors only on special occasions. The four themed gardens, however, are available to visitors.
This is a garden that evokes memories and fosters dialogue about people's interaction with plants, experienced through visual, olfactory, tactile, or gustatory stimuli. In other words, it is a space with a strong ethnobotanical vocation. Rescuing popular knowledge of biodiversity is one of the missions of this garden, which contains about 70 species of native and exotic plants distributed in the categories of medicinal, aromatic, and Unconventional Food Plants (PANCs) — a new addition for 2025.
A structural garden that impresses with the diversity of plant strategies for coping with heat and water scarcity. It shows how seemingly inhospitable environments can emanate life and beauty. Inspired by the desert landscapes of Mexico and the arid and semi-arid regions of Brazil, it features approximately 120 species from the Cactaceae, Crassulaceae, and Euphorbiaceae families.
In this garden, the Cerrado and the Atlantic Forest are celebrated. The space features trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses, orchids, bromeliads, and reveals a glimpse of Brazilian plant biodiversity. There are approximately 140 species distributed along trails lined with large trees and palm trees.
Meliponiculture is the practice of raising stingless bees. Plebeia, iraí, jataí, mandaçaia, and moça-branca are popular names for some of the native bee species that live in the Meliponary. They play a fundamental role in the conservation of biodiversity. This space demonstrates the importance of these pollinators for native flora, wildlife, and human societies.
