Vanguarda Viperina (1985) is part of a set of works in which Tunga deals with living beings, as well as in Laminadas Almas (2004). In the work, we see the black and white photographic record made by Lúcia Helena Zaremba of the performance that took place in 1985 at the Instituto Vital Brazil, an institution that produced antivenom.
Three snakes, after being sedated, were braided, alternating their ends between tail/head/tail and, consequently, head/tail/head. Here, the artist's interest in the relationship of three elements that confer the "three is one" situation is evident: three snakes, three heads, three tails, one braid. This work became a reference point in Tunga's production, being represented in sculptures, drawings, and installations.
