Valeska Soares

Valeska Soares has an interdisciplinary background, having studied architecture (Santa Úrsula University – RJ), art history (PUC-RJ), and visual arts (New York University). Time, affective memory, and fictional literature are some of the main starting points used in her sculptures, videos, and installations. The presence of mirrors and reflective materials, frequent in her works, creates tension in the relationships between the individual and the collective, the organic and the synthetic.
In his occupation and reinterpretation of spaces, Soares uses not only sound, but also architectural thought. His first solo exhibition in a museum took place at PICA – Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (USA), in 1998, and his first retrospective was presented at the Pampulha Art Museum, in Belo Horizonte (Brazil, 2002). He recently exhibited at Pina Estação, São Paulo (Brazil, 2018).
