Simon Starling began his art and photography studies at Nottingham Trent University (England) between 1987 and 1990, and graduated from the Glasgow School of Art (Scotland) in 1992. Starling's work stems from an interest in the processes of transformation of substances and objects. The artist raises issues such as the use of technology, mass production, and global capitalism. His works include objects and installations.
Em Shedboatshed (Mobile Architecture No 2)In 2005, Starling dismantled a hut and transformed it into a boat, which was then carried along the Rhine River for 8 kilometers from the town of Schweizerhalle to the Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Basel, Switzerland, where it was reassembled into its original shelter form. For this work, the artist received the Turner Prize in 2005. His major exhibitions include participation in the 50th Venice Biennale (2003, Italy) and the 26th São Paulo Biennial (2004, Brazil).
