In the 1990s, Rivane Neuenschwander studied drawing at the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, and earned a master's degree from the Royal College of Art (England) in 1998. In her installations, she frequently uses repurposed industrial objects and everyday or perishable materials, such as dried flowers, insects, dust, styrofoam, snail slime, salt, among others.
The artist's work uses these simple elements to discuss universal issues such as fear, history, temporality, and political, economic, and social interactions. Among her main exhibitions is... Mal-entendidos, first panoramic exhibition of her work in Brazil, at MAM – Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (2014), in addition to participation in the biennials of Johannesburg (South Africa), São Paulo (Brazil), Venice (Italy) and Mercosur.
