Miguel Rio Branco studied photography at the New York Institute of Photography (USA) in 1966. His work lies at the intersection of art, photography, and cinema. Alongside his work as a photographer and director of experimental films in New York from 1970 to 1972, he developed research in auteur photography, combining documentary elements with a strong poetic charge in scenes of violence and sensuality, particularly marked by the dramatic use of color.

In his installations, he displays photographic projections along with newspaper clippings, shards of mirrors, or scraps of fabric. Among his main exhibitions are... Nada levarei quando morrer, at MASP – Museu de Arte de São Paulo (2017) and Gritos surdos, at Casa França-Brasil, Rio de Janeiro (2014). Exhibited at the São Paulo Biennial and the Mercosur Biennial.
