Lygia Pape began her training at the MAM – Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, taking classes with printmakers Ivan Serpa and Fayga Ostrower. She was involved in the creation of the Grupo Frente (1954) and the Neoconcrete Movement (1959), important events in the renewal of contemporary art in Brazil. Pape developed works that sought to escape the traditional limits of art, considering not only the use of materials common to this field, but also the space outside museums and the participation of the spectator.
Em Caixa de baratas (1967), the artist literally exhibited an acrylic box with cockroaches, and in Divisor (1968), proposed a performance in a public space with the participation of dozens of people. His posthumous retrospective stands out in his career.
