Jarbas Lopes completed his studies in sculpture in 1992 at the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. His work encompasses sculptures, drawings, installations, and performances. He also develops conceptual projects that operate outside the logic of capitalism, valuing artisanal thinking and spectator participation. In the series A paisanoFor example, he revives the popular practice of weaving to construct images with multicolored weaves that lie between painting and sculpture. His work is part of important collections such as those of the MAM – Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, the MoMA – Museum of Modern Art (USA), the Victoria & Albert Museum (England) and the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (USA).
