Invenção da Cor, Penetrável Magic Square #5, De Luxe (1977) was built posthumously, based on instructions left by Hélio Oiticica in texts, plans, models, and samples. The use of the term squareThe word, which translated into Portuguese can mean both "square" and "plaza," reveals fundamental elements of the artist's thinking: an interest in public space as a meeting place and the legacy of geometric tradition in his training.

Here, color – another fundamental element in Oiticica's work – reaches an environmental scale, in the articulation of nine walls made of masonry, acrylic paint, wire mesh, and glass. The presence of natural light, with the changes it undergoes throughout the days, completes the work, which is modified at every instant.
