Designed by Play Arquitetura to house A origem da obra de arte (2002), by Marilá Dardot, the gallery was inaugurated in 2011. The installation, which was in the artist's first solo exhibition at the Pampulha Art Museum (Belo Horizonte), reflects her interest in language by inviting the viewer to construct words and phrases with ceramic vases in the shape of letters. The gallery's architecture takes as its starting point the design of the structure of the old pottery that operated in the vicinity of the Inhotim Institute.
Without walls, windows, or doors, the space is an open-air planting studio where visitors can find gardening tools, soil, and seeds. The 1500 pots, each bearing the initial letter of the artwork, were produced at Inhotim by women from the surrounding communities.
