Edgard de Souza studied visual arts at the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (São Paulo), where he came into contact with conceptual art. His work is permeated by issues related to the body and its representation, whether through sculpture, painting, printmaking, or photography. His works frequently challenge the notions of portrait and self-portrait.
Transfiguration is a recurring element in his works, such as bronze sculptures in which headless trunks appear connected, wooden tables that take on anthropomorphic characteristics, or photographic sequences in which the artist portrays himself in struggle and interaction with himself. His main exhibitions include participation in the São Paulo Biennial, the MAM – Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, and the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo.
