Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's artistic training began in 1982 at the École des Beaux-Arts in Grenoble, France. Since the 1990s, she has explored the sensitive and cognitive relationship between bodies and spaces – real or fictional. Her interdisciplinary practice includes videos, installations, and collaborative projects, such as designing Balenciaga stores in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and co-authoring a science fiction novel with the artist Philippe Parreno.

She has held solo exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou (France), Dia Art Foundation (USA), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Spain), Tate Modern (England), and the MAM – Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. She participated in the São Paulo Biennial (2006) and the Venice Biennale (Italy, 2009).
