Unlike many works at the Inhotim Institute, which integrate into the landscape, Desert Park (2010) was intentionally designed to be a discordant element. It brings together a small collection of different types of bus shelters, made of concrete and in real size, prefabricated locally.

The artist appropriates an important reference from modernist urban furniture from the period between 1940 and 1960. The area of ​​this kind of square is covered with white sand, creating an artificial, desert-like setting.

The work is a reference by Dominique to the book. Burning World (1964) by JG Ballard, and also to White Sands Desert From New Mexico, in the United States of America. This almost inhospitable environment, as proposed by the artist, creates a sense of strangeness in relation to the surrounding tropical landscape.
