Cooking Crystals Expanded (2009) is an unfolding of the work presented by Tunga at the 3rd Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art (Russia) in 2009. Vertical iron structures, with a ring at the base and another at the top, support rods, springs, and hooks that keep rock crystals, amber stones, magnet blocks, extruded resin mass, and yellow liquid floating between the posts; the latter two allude to feces and urine. The pieces are suspended and articulated by long, braided steel cylinders, like "tipitis" (an indigenous basketry technique). References to bodily fluids, alchemy, the primitive, and the magnetic relationship between metals are some of the elements of this structure, recurrent in the artist's production.
