At Lago Novo, it's possible to admire the canela-de-ema (a type of cinnamon tree). This species thrives in natural fields high in the mountains, under rocky outcrops. Those who see its delicate purple flowers don't always know that it's accustomed to enduring drought, continuous winds, and large temperature variations. It's a species of Minas Gerais flora, endemic to the Serra do Espinhaço mountain range.
