The film-installation Ão (1981) was first exhibited at the 16th São Paulo Biennial. In it, Tunga projects, in large dimensions, the moving image of a curved road inside the Dois Irmãos tunnel (now Zuzu Angel), in Rio de Janeiro. Published in loopThe image leads us to believe that we are strangely walking in circles inside the tunnel, with no way out.
The soundtrack with the continuous repetition of the excerpt. Night and Day (Night and Day, in English), sung by Frank Sinatra, contributes to this dilation of space-time, of a continuous cycle. The physical presentation of the work reaffirms circular thinking: the film of the analog movie continuously travels through a circuit of suspended pulleys, arranged in a circle, before passing through the projector lens and having its frames displayed on the wall.
