The Claudia Andujar Gallery is divided into three conceptual axes: The Earth; Man; and Conflict. These terms refer to the division of the book... Os Sertões (1902), by Euclides da Cunha – The Land; The Man and The Struggle –, which narrates the events that followed the War of Canudos (1896-1897), in the interior of Bahia. Both the literary work and the works present in this space propose an interpretation of the relationship between men and women and the struggle for their rights and for the recognition of their territory.
To the ground
This curatorial section brings together photographs in which the Amazon rainforest is the main character, setting aside the romantic idealization of the landscape in favor of a mythical vision of nature. In the aerial views, land and water take on the appearance of animals and plants, as if the landscape were animated. For the artist, the vegetation of the Lavrado (Roraima) resembles reptiles and felines, and the panorama of the Rio Negro resembles a snake.
The display case in the center of the second room brings together publications that bear witness to the different facets of Claudia Andujar's unique trajectory in indigenous rights, such as the special issue on the Amazon of the magazine. Realidade, published in 1971, with the first photographs taken in the village of Maturacá (AM).
In this first section, the series recorded in the 1970s are on display: Rio Negro; Cachoeira de Santo. Antônio; Catrimani; Flora; Igapó; Lavrado; Maturacá; is Vitória Régia.
