The gardens of the Inhotim Institute are unique. With groups of high landscape value and great phylogenetic representativeness, there are approximately 4.300 species of vascular plants, some of which are organized into nine Thematic Gardens for public exhibition. All this diversity makes the Inhotim Botanical Garden (JBI) an excellent platform for scientific studies, environmental education, and in situ and ex situ conservation actions – both within and outside their natural environment – ​​which favors the replication of many species, some of which are already at risk of extinction in their habitat.

At Inhotim, plants are also considered part of the museum's collection, which requires curatorial processes of documentation, monitoring, research, and dissemination. This is the area of ​​expertise of the Nature Management team , which works constantly to monitor, expand, disseminate, and create new ways of experimenting with these collections.

Since 2019, Inhotim has had its own Botanical Collections Policy, which guides the processes of organization, registration, acquisition methods, and biosecurity in relation to plants at the Institute. 

Botanical collection: a world heritage site

The botanical collections of Inhotim, both living plants and seeds, are included in PlantSearch, a tool of BGCI (Botanic Gardens Conservation International). PlantSearch is a global platform for accessing and sharing information about living collections maintained in botanical gardens and similar institutions. This database contains approximately 1.000 species from the Inhotim Institute's collections, available for public consultation.
