Traveling Workshop

The Circulating Atelier understands all the spaces of the museum and botanical garden as places of experience that involve diverse artistic languages. Each week, our atelier migrates to a different location, investigating how each space helps us discover ways to create and experience art and nature.

Discover the schedule for the Circulating Workshop in March.

O Ateliê Circulante tem a Vale como Mantenedora Master e a Parceria Estratégica da Cemig por meio da Lei Federal de Incentivo à Cultura.

  • Carnival Edition

During Carnival, the floats—which give their name to the parade floats—are present to visually translate the storyline of the samba schools. In this edition of the Circulating Workshop, the public is invited to imagine the Inhotim workshop cart as a parade float and to create props that refer to their stories, memories, and experiences. At each stop, new floats will be created, thus making a unique and collective parade.

    March 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, at 14 PM

25 places available | Duration: 2 hours | Location: starting at Largo das Orquídeas [J7], continuing to Jardim Veredas [J5]; Galeria Cosmococa [G15]; Jorge Macchi, Piscina (2009) [A15] and Jardim de Todos os Sentidos [J1] | Registration at Largo das Orquídeas [J7] from 14 pm | Rating: Suitable for all ages

  • Warnings and Disclaimers

What rules make sense in a museum? As informational devices, what interpretations are possible for a sign? Through allegory, signs can shift meanings, subvert instructions, and propose new forms of (dis)orientation within the Inhotim space. In this workshop, participants will create signage that explores the boundary between norm and absurdity.

    March 8th and 9th, at 14 PM

25 places available | Duration: 2 hours | Location: Hélio Oiticica, Invention of Color, Penetrável Magic Square #5, De Luxe (1977) [A12] | Registration on site from 14 pm | Rating: Suitable for all ages

  • What is seen, what is created, by Brenno Theotônio and Clara Duarte

How are our identities constructed? What can an exercise in self-observation reveal about us? Those who enroll in this workshop will create images through compositions with objects, paints, clothing, and various materials. The portraits created will be a combination of visual and symbolic elements that illustrate fictions about their creators and encourage reflection on identity as something unique and constantly transforming.

    March 15th and 16th, at 14 PM

25 places available | Duration: 2 hours | Location: Doris Salcedo Gallery [G8] | Registration on site from 14 pm | Rating: Suitable for all ages

  • Desert Beach, by Isadora Godoy

The desert is an empty place without much fun… or is it? In this workshop, the public is invited to transform Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's work Desert Park (2010) into a beach of experiences. How can we play in the desert? How can we find fun in a place of waiting? It will be a moment to explore possibilities and reinvent emptiness.

    March 22, at 14 pm

25 places available | Duration: 2 hours | Location: Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Desert Park (2010) [A19] | Registration on site from 14 pm | Rating: Suitable for all ages

  • Factory of Illusions

Light has always been a point of interest for artists, scientists, and curious people in general. One way to play with the visual effects of light is by using an optical device—a toy, apparatus, or tool that can alter our perception of images through light; for example, a kaleidoscope. In this edition of the Circulating Workshop, the public is invited to create devices like these and generate optical illusions.

    March 29th and 30th, at 14 PM

25 places available | Duration: 2 hours | Location: Lygia Pape Gallery [G8] | Registration on site from 14 pm | Rating: Suitable for all ages
