Research is a fundamental practice for the production of knowledge, the preservation of biodiversity, and critical reflection on contemporary art. At Inhotim, research is a structuring axis. It permeates areas such as Art and Collection, Nature, Education, and Territory. In this context, the Research Ethics Committee of the Inhotim Institute (COEPI) organizes and qualifies this field. 

What is COEPI and what does it do? 

COEPI guides, evaluates, and monitors the research conducted at the institution. Its objective is to ensure that projects adhere to ethical principles, respect individuals and communities, and preserve artistic, botanical, and documentary collections. Furthermore, it establishes guidelines that allow for the responsible and transparent development of research, in accordance with national and international standards. 

The committee receives proposals from researchers, curators, students, artists, and professionals from partner institutions. It also guides internal teams involved in these processes. Its role ranges from analyzing requests to monitoring research and delivering results. 

How to conduct research at Inhotim? 

To conduct research at Inhotim, it is necessary to fill out the form. request formThe proposal must include objectives, methodology, timeline, and areas involved. It must also indicate the use of personal data, if applicable. The proposal undergoes a screening process by COEPI and a technical analysis by the responsible areas. These areas assess the project's feasibility. The decision may be approval, adjustment, or rejection. In all cases, guidelines are provided. Once approved, the project is formalized and monitored until completion. 

Throughout the entire process, fundamental principles must be observed. These include respect for individuals, protection of personal data, and preservation of collections and the environment. Transparency in the dissemination of results is also essential. Research with local communities or traditional peoples requires specific care. It is necessary to guarantee free and informed consent and provide for the return of information. 

Due to high demand, the Ethics and Research Committee reserves a period of up to 30 days for responses.
