Michel Majerus é um dos principais artistas identificados com a revitalização da pintura na Alemanha no final da década de 1990. Michel Majerus is one of the most significant artists identified with the revitalization of painting in Germany in the late 1990s. In his production, we find an malgamation of assorted references, ranging from the abstract expressionism of William de Kooning, and its “unique” gestures, to the pop culture celebrated in U.S. rock music, and the ubiquitous predigested aura of advertising. In the works on display, the artist combines classic painting procedures with strategies that challenge tradition and align the work with installations, and such signifiers of pop culture and daily life as stage settings and billboards.
