Desde o início dos anos 1970, a produção de Paul McCarthy consiste de performances registradas em vídeos e fotografias, esculturas em grande escala e instalações multimídia, todas elas inspiradas pela indústria do entretenimento norte-americana, da TV e dos filmes B. Sua obra une o ritualístico e o profano, sangue e catchup. Hollywood Halloween registra a performance homônima realizada em 1977 e reúne alguns dos principais interesses de McCarthy: a máscara, os fluidos corporais e a encenação para a câmera.
Since the early 1970s, Paul McCarthy’s artistic production has included performances that are either video-taped or photographed, large-scale sculptures, and mixed-media installations, all of them inspired by the U.S. entertainment industry, television, and “B” movies. McCarthy’s work brings together the ritualistic and the profane, blood and ketchup. Hollywood Halloween features a performance presented in 1977 and exhibits a number of the artist’s main interests: masks, body fluids, and performing for the camera.
